Luther and Schol came from here.

Narrator:

Later, Blackbird maneuvers Luther and Schol off alone with her.

Blackbird:

Listen. Maia worries me. I'm just not sure what she's going to do: Sooner or later we're going to have to go into that castle whether the curse is lifted or not. We may have to fight creatures like that cat she and Brennan brought back. For all we know, Maia may decide to side with them -- she certainly seems more interested in their well-being than ours.

Luther:

Yeah, I'd noticed that. Thought it was just me.

Blackbird:

The three of us ought to watch each others' backs. I don't want to start anything, but if Maia goes for one of us, the other two have to be ready to take her down -- permanently.

There's probably others we can trust and warn, but I'm sure about you two, so I wanted to talk to you first. Obviously, we can't mention anything to Brennan.

Schol:
It seems to me the best thing to do is inform Jhereg and ask him to do something. At the least he can make her leave. As for meeting her at the castle I don't see that as a problem. She can be cut down and we don't have to worry about it quite as soon since we'll know where we'll be meeting her.

Blackbird:

I don't know. I suppose that's sensible, but there's something about turning my problems over to the authorities that makes my skin crawl. Things like this should be kept personal. I would rather not say anything to Jhereg.

Luther:

I'm with Blackbird on this one. Turning somebody over to the authorities gets them pissed and gets you bushwacked.

Mouth shut, eyes open. That's how you handle stuff like this.

'sides, if I let something happen to you, my squire would never let me hear the end of it.
