The Duke
Hubert David Jonathan d'Pendleton is the ruler of the oldest duchy in the realm, and one of the richest. He is a small man, about 5'-6", with steel gray hair. Hugh (he despises the name Hubert) is very close, both personally and politically, to the dukes of Devonshire and Chesterton. He is a fair man of exceptional moral character, but not so rigid in his beliefs as Chesterton. As such, he tends to play the middle road when there is conflict between those two. Four sons and three daughters. So far, only Cynthia Allison Pendleton is
defined. She is the oldest daughter. Jonathan is the youngest of the sons.
Currently, he is the "Inquisitor in Training" in preparation to replace his
uncle (the duke's brother) probably in the next few years.

His father distinguished himself in the Battle of Balandenburg by rescuing the Marquis de Thorpe. As a reward he was elevated to the rank of Baronet. The young Saradon has been raised on strict Prussian discipline.
